The Walking Dead Season 7 Brings New Life to the Series

This entry contains spoilers for the Walking Dead seasons 4, 6, and 7 (through the Mid-season Finale). The Walking Dead returns 2/12/2017.

Eeny...Meeny...Miney...Mo...

This childhood game is also the way that The Walking Dead closed in April of 2016. October saw the end of the game, revealing the death of a beloved character. This event, adapted from the comic's 100th issue, saw the introduction of Negan, played by Jeffery Dean Morgan, the biggest, baddest survivor since the Governor.

And if you thought the decapitation of Hershal was distressing to witness, you will loath Negan for his wielding of a baseball bat wrapped in Barbed Wire, which he calls Lucille. This is the instrument used to obliterate the head of Sargent Abraham Ford, and the show shows many gory shots of the bat hitting his head. This event in itself is hard to watch, but then Negan gloats, and forces Rosita to look at the bloody bat.

Unfortunately, the scene gets worse, as Daryl, refusing to yield to Negan, punches him in the face. Negan then punishes the group again with another bashing, this time the beloved Glenn Rhee, the comic's sole victim, on the receiving end of the bat. The show replicates the images from the comic with stomach churning accuracy (the details of which will be removed, as most have seen this already).

It is at this moment that we see a new spark in many of the characters in the story. Maggie demands retribution on the spot, but Negan has the numbers.

The Reign of Negan has begun...

Fast forward to the mid-season finale, where Spencer tries to usurp Rick again, this time by convincing Negan that he could lead the safe zone better than Rick. Negan criticizes Spencer's cowardice, stating that he "has no guts" and slashes his belly, spilling his literal guts on the ground.

These events have rejuvinated the urgency of the series in a way that has been somewhat lagging since the fall of the governor. There have been moments, but perhaps Negan's rule can spur the energy of the series as there is a lot at stake when dealing with Negan.

Will we see the crew rise up and destroy Negan, or will Lucille come down again and end the resistance once and for all?

Tune in tonight to find out where they will go from here.

Jigsaw: The Piece That Doesn't Fit the Puzzle

*This review will contain spoilers for Jigsaw **This review will discuss scenes of intense fictional violence. Reader discretion advised. Before I actually begin this review, I find it important to note that I, in fact, enjoyed this film. I was super excited to see this franchise return, and it was a good journey. With that being said, there are definitely major issues with this film. And with that, let's begin... Ten years ago, the team behind the Saw franchise disbanded, stating that they would not return to the franchise unless they had a story to tell... Now, they are back to tell the story... That makes absolutely no sense! While the film delivers what Saw fans desire (creatively diabolical games, a creative twist, and a creepy puppet), the film fails to actually do what it wanted to. The film simply fails in following the lore of the franchise. Let me explain... The franchise follows John Kramer, who, after losing his unborn child and being diagnosed with ter...

A Song to Keep in Your Head

*This review will contain spoilers for Song of the Sea This is not your average animated film. Do not let the simple art style fool you; this film covers some very serious ideas. The entire film is a journey of emotions. The story focuses on Ben, a young boy who had always wanted a little sibling. However, when his mother "vanishes" on the day of his sister's birth, he grows to resent his new sister. He criticizes her at every chance he gets. However, through a journey through the mythology of his mother's stories, he finds the spirit of their mom lives inside his sister. Furthermore, there is a sub theme about the need of emotions, even painful ones. This exists in two main ways: Maka, the Owl Witch, and Ben's grandmother. Maka sees emotions as evil things, as her son nearly drowned himself in his tears. Maka removed the feelings of her son, and anybody else she could, believing in her very soul that she was helping them. However, in the process of remov...
